Within the scope of April Autism Awareness Month, a training seminar was held

Within the scope of April Autism Awareness Month, a training seminar on Individuals with Autism in terms of Disaster and Emergency Management was held by Dr. Erkan KURNAZ from Anadolu University Research Institute For Individuals With Disabilities.

Within the scope of the training, Pre-Disaster Planning for Individuals with Autism and Protection of Individuals with Autism during and after the Disaster were discussed in detail. He talked about what can be done to protect the individuals with autism during a disaster. He talked about the safety skills that individuals with autism may need at home, school, workplace and other social environments and the applications that can be used in teaching these important skills. He shared training and awareness projects explaining how to act after disasters and emergencies that can guide these individuals, their families and experts working in this field, and how this information can be transferred to individuals with autism with the right educational methodology and educational documents. Prof. Dr. Erkan KURNAZ stated that within the scope of the project, content that can be a resource in disasters and emergencies for individuals with Down syndrome or intellectual disabilities has also been prepared.
